I just realized after writing the above, that the "Branches" system could be used for partisan groups. But sometimes a user might want to join more than one group. And I think having the colour coding is key.

I deliberately decided not to have groups, particularly political party-oriented ones, in the hopes that people could organize around their priorities, regardless of how they identify themselves politically. I think it's interesting to look at someone's profile and instantly see what you agree/disagree on, without making a snap judgment based on a red or blue next to their name.
That said, if you wanted to do it, you could use branches.

What about having colour'ed usernames for branches? It would be useful for Branches setup for MP's or politicians, to visually see which branch they are in without clicking there profile.

I think that's SPOT ON Jim, ... have people "vote" per se based on IDEAS, not "party affiliations". If only we could get the real world to work more like this. Too many times in the real world, I think people just vote party-line, in both directions.

This is now my #1 priority. I can't even use the current overview homepage, I'm not sure what the requirements are for that view to be populated.
But I think the Overview homepage should have several "blocks" of data. At the top could be the top 5-10 priorities, then below that the 5 newest priorites, then below that maybe the top 5 rising ones. Then at the bottom a mini version of the activity feed or the most recent comments summary. This would be a true overview.

Acquisition is actually the way you do priority title changes once more than just the priority creator is endorsing/opposing the priority. If you want a new title, just make a new priority, then propose it acquire the old one. It goes through the voting process, letting people decide whether they like the new language or not. Whoever doesn't, can just stay with the old wording.
